Bookshelf Wall, Part 3: The electrical

The electrical part of this project was actually less complicated than I envisioned. Essentially, the wall already had a single outlet along the baseboard and a light switch near the doorway that we wanted to operate the bookshelf sconces above. So we moved the outlet (safely, with the power disconnected) to a more accessible location along the inside of the shelf and then rerouted the electrical supply from the adjacent room. It was a process that sounds more complicated than it honestly was, but it does require some previous electrical experience, of course.

One of our favorite electrical tweaks this process was finding these wire connectors. Instead of the traditional winged nuts that make you twist the wires without being able to see them clearly, these connectors that allow for a much easier connection.

All of the wires running within the platform and columns will eventually be hidden, and maybe now you can envision the sconces in their places. Of course this means we need to settle on our sconce selection (I have a few top favorites, but just need to pull the trigger), as well as figure out the profile of our trim and any decorative additions we want to add to the columns.
