A proper dining room update

Given that I’m tackling so much manual labor in this house, I have less time to share written updates like I’d planned. But I’m hoping to change that this Spring. More than a month ago, I shared a post about our new olive green dining room chairs. Well, now the room is painted, sconces and a chandelier have been DIY’d, and the room is about 75% of the way complete! Here’s the mood board I created awhile back for reference. I still need to find and install curtains (I’m aiming for a similar blue hue to the walls/ceiling to create a cocoon effect). I’d also love to add a vintage white/cream sideboard or buffet below the artwork and sconces. The trouble is finding something that’s the right scale, color and price tag. The one I included in the mood board is new and will be a last ditch effort if I can’t find something secondhand.

I’m also planning to install a a tapestry on a blank wall in this space that I found in my mom’s attic. It was the prize she received from opening her first American Express credit card in 1973. Oh how times have changed! When deciding if I wanted to use it in this home, I gave it what I call the DMV test (as referenced in my Home, Addressed podcast). Is it:

  • Durable: It’s in great shape and made of 100% wool

  • Meaning: It’s meaningful to me because it reminds me of my Mom and her past life

  • Versatile: I love the colors and could use it in other spaces/homes in the future

My plan is to hang it from a dowel rod (which I’ll likely stain a rich walnut color) using velvet ribbons. I love how this dark, moody space is layering up in a way that feels right for this house and reflects our personal style.
