Mood Board: Dylan's New Room!
I’ve been brainstorming what to do with the girls’ bedrooms for months now, and when we finally settled on a color palette for the playroom and closet, I knew I could start to narrow down the choices. It’s super important to me that the house’s color palette flows from room to room in a visually pleasing way. So wallpaper will be sprinkled throughout. Rooms painted in deep saturated colors will lead into rooms that feel light and fresh so nothing ever feels too light or too dark…or too boring!
And so when it came to our youngest daughter’s bedroom, I knew I wanted wallpaper. I know, I know…I just wallpapered a 10’ x 18’ room with a slanted ceiling. BUT that means I can totally handle an 8’ x 10’ space on my own. This mood board started with the Hygge & West for Schoolhouse wallpaper, which I’m crazy for in this palette. Your first reaction might be: “ok Jourdan…but brown in a baby’s room?!” And I’ll reply with: “This is a warm, clay brown that’s offset with crisp powder blue, warm purple and then terracotta red to really be wild. It’s warm and happy a bit unexpected…perfect for a little girl named Dylan. Plus her old sister already claimed purple walls and so this paper will look nice next door.”
Also let’s remember that all colors are beautiful and selecting the best color tones for your home/light/style is everything. With the wallpaper decided on, I knew that a powder blue ceiling and trim would be so sweet and dreamy. I found a windowpane cream + purple rug on Etsy that I’ve ordered in a custom size, and I know Dylan is going to LOVE rolling around on it. It will for sure be her favorite part of the room.
As for the ceiling light, I found a high-end, large-scaled flushmount fixture at a local Habitat store for $40 that I’ll be painting brick red because you know I had to pull that in somewhere! And then I’m deciding between a few plug-in sconces to free up room on a side table for a coffee and/or a book.
And because you know we can’t design a room without a DIY project, I’m planning to cover a basic wooden table in peel & stick wallpaper in a complementary pattern AND we’ll be making a dollhouse bookshelf using shelving and wood leftover from other projects. Other leftovers that will be staying in this room: a white crib with light wood dowels, a pale gray glider, and ivory velvet curtains. I’ll likely eventually replace them, but they’re heavy and light-blocking for now.
There’s just so much goodness coming down the pipeline, and what I love most is that it it all really feels like our girl.
