We were out of town last weekend and we’re still finishing the Pivot House, so I've only tackled a few things on our to-do list this week for the ORC. And since my husband is serving as our main carpenter, we’ll be working around his day job. This weekend we’re planning to do a ton of measuring and start buying and storing wood so we can begin building the components in our garage.

Other things I’ve accomplished:

• Ordered the wallpaper (I’m SO excited!)

• Ordered the pink recessed lights (I’m skeptical of this one but cautiously optimistic)

• Visited by nearby carpet store to look at samples (more on that below)

• Drawn out the designs we’ll need to build (bookshelves with arched tops, the costume closet, and flowerbox)

• Researched lamps, table, and a mirror. I’d prefer to thrift these items if possible, but don’t know how lucky I’ll be.

• What’s left: everything else.

Let’s briefly talk about wall-to-wall carpets, since that’s the biggest decision weighing on my mind this week. You might be saying, wall-to-wall carpet? But you’ll be seeing more carpeted rooms (it’s a thing) in a slew of colors and patterns over the next few years. Here are some inspiration photos of other colorful carpeted rooms:

In our case, carpet in a playroom equals comfort during endless hours of playing on the floor. And while I’d love to have a high-end wool carpet in here, nylon is better for us in terms of cost as well as durability with kids and a dog. I visited my local carpet store and started flipping them sample boards, honing in on blue-green-gray options with minimal pattern and texture. I can’t decide if I should stick to the safe, solid color option or opt for something with a bit more texture. The room gets very little natural light, so I’m tempted to select a lighter shade as opposed to a darker one.
